Week 10: Lots Of Progress!

Here's what the contractors did this week:
  • Continuing building forms and setting rebar in foundation wall.
  • Continuing on fire line from street.
  • Moving dirt to stockpile.
  • Drilling first well for Ground Source Heating Pump (GSHP) to put under testing.  Once drilled in, must sit for 5 days then a heat test is run for 2 days.  After the results come back from testing, they can continue drilling the remaining 9 holes.
  • Removing old insulation from the sanctuary.

Behind the Scenes: The Design Team

DESIGN TEAM? WHO?

BY Wendie Highsmith, Chair

Did you know there are several sub-committees of the Building Committee?

Some of them are:

  • Transition,
  • Finance,
  • Construction Management,
  • Construction Finance,
  • Landscape,
  • Transition,
  • Communications,
  • AV,
  • Low Voltage Technology,
  • Board,
  • Minister,
  • Staff,
  • Administration,
  • RE,
  • Celebration,
  • Kitchen,
  • Other sub-committees  working behind the scenes but who have not revealed themselves.... yet,
  • And the Design Team.

For now, your Design Team is pretty much working behind the scenes with  architects, Rich Keilman and David Barrett, to envision what inside might look like. We are six members strong, two from the Building Committee, one from the Aesthetics Committee, Rev. Lydia and three others who agreed to bring their talents and enthusiasm to this work. A tall order,
to be sure.

Much input has been received from members since we first began this project. The architects heard what we said and set into motion the beautiful design we are now watching unfold before our eyes (lots of dirt piles right now).

Through listening sessions with staff, our youth, Hospitality, and others, and more recently the Kitchen Advisory Group, the Design Team has gathered wants, needs and desires for various aspects of the interiors.

We have looked at wood and stone and glass for the dais and many, many carpet tile and marmoleum samples, as well as, plumbing fixtures. The kitchen group has made decisions about shelves and cabinets. Basic stainless steel kitchen appliance decisions have been made but no purchases yet. Our goal is to be good stewards of your trusting, generous pledges, our existing property and our planet.

As we get further into the construction, our work will intensify and decisions will be made on what to purchase  such as chairs for the sanctuary, furnishings for offices and Religious Education space, the youth room, and general meeting areas-- those  things that will make this structure our home.

It will not be perfect, not everything will please everyone, but

we will do our best to help creature a space where we want to gather, worship, sing, dance, learn, share a meal, and serve together as Unitarian Universalists.

It is our privilege to serve you in this capacity.
