Personnel Changes and Storage

1.  We've had a couple of personnel changes on the Building Committee.
  • Larry Sherwood, Co-Chair, has resigned in order to devote his energies to the Capital Campaign fund.
  • Karen Douglass was nominated and voted on to serve as Co-Chair with Jim Highsmith. Co-Chair.
  • Kevin Muller, (Consultant) is now an official member of the Committee.  He will also serve as our Consultant.
2.  A sub-committee of the Building Committee, called the Storage Sub-Committee, has started a catalogue/list of every item in every storage space at the Fellowship.

This Thursday, the sub-committee will meet to strategize  how we can determine how much storage space we have presently and how much we would like to have after the remodeling.

Weekly Architectural Update

Here is a bullet point list of Barrett Studios'  progress to date:

- Analysis of the City of Lafayette zoning code, ongoing.
- Document the existing floor plan background in CAD (Computer Assisted Design), completed.
- Document the existing space program and establish a preliminary proposed program, completed.
- Visits to the building for site analysis and conceptual visioning, 2 visits made, more to come.
- Document site analysis & conceptual ideas, ongoing.

Over the next couple of weeks Barrett Studios will continue to develop diagrams and conceptual sketches that investigate site layout options from a macroview.
They're looking closely at entry and approach on the site as well as opportunities to integrate beautiful outdoor areas with existing and new building areas so that they make the most of what we have on site.
They'll also be working to solidify the zoning code parameters, and their meeting with the planning department is key to that resolution.
One helpful item for the program that was discussed is to have staff and/or volunteers assess overall storage needs.

"The game is afoot!" - S. Holmes

Holmes tells Watson:  Come, Watson, come! The game is afoot. Not a word! Into your clothes and come!

It's been a busy two weeks for the BVUUF sleuths collecting data:

  1. After reviewing proposals from 3 different survey companies, they've hired Ehrhart Land Surveying Service to survey the Fellowship's property.

  2. After much ado, they located the Fellowship Title Commitment Documents and forwarded them to the surveyor.

  3. They're in the midst of hiring a soil testing company to analyze the soil in and around our property.

  4. They paid a retainer to the architects, Barrett Studio,  to begin preliminary conceptual designs.

It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.

Barrett Studio Chosen As Our Architect

The Building Committee interviewed 3 different architects and met with them several times to carry out deep conversations.  After much discussion and research, we unanimously chose Barrett Studio of Boulder to help us design our newly remodeled space.

Barrett Studio has worked with several spiritual centers in Colorado, namely:  First Universalist Church of Denver, Jefferson Unitarian Church, Abbey of St. Walburga and Boulder Jewish Commons, to name a few.

It was Barrett Studio's extensive work with UU spiritual spaces and their familiarity with UU beliefs that impressed us. Please visit the Barrett Studio website to view some of their past work and see if you aren't impressed also.

Yesterday (Tuesday), representatives of the Building Committee, the Board, and Barrett Studio met with Reverend Lydia to discuss what a UU spiritual space could look like through the minister's lens.
