New Acoustic Panels in the Fellowship Hall and the Sanctuary

Last week we had acoustic panels installed in the Fellowship Hall and the Sanctuary to improve the sound quality in the two rooms.

We are sure that they will help make it easier to have a normal conversation in the Fellowship Hall.

The smaller panels in the sanctuary will solve a small-center-of-dais-bass-notes-reverberation-ping-problem.

Enjoy your neighbor's voice!

The panels in the sanctuary are really off-white.  This was before the final fabric was attached.

Week 70 - That's all folks!

Dear Fellowship Friends:

Did you know that the Building Committee had their first meeting on March 16, 2017?

At that time we decided that it was very important that Fellowship members be able to follow along as the remodeling and construction progressed.  Some members don't live in Lafayette and therefore they were unable to see the progress.  Even if a member lived in Lafayette, it didn't help much because the construction site was fenced off.

The committee wondered what the best way to communicate our weekly progress to our members was.

I volunteered to investigate creating a Building Committee Blog and using iMovie to document our successes.  Now, keep in mind, I had never used the software, iMovie, in my life.  This is called Unconscious Incompetence; when you don't know what you don't know.   Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.  Oh well.

Luckily, my 2nd grade teacher son had experience with it and he became the Fellowship's iMovie consultant.  That moved me into the level of Conscious Incompetence; when you know what you don't know.  Hey, progress!

By the way, or BTW as the younger generation says, if you ever need help with some new software, ask a 2nd grade teacher. They have tremendous expertise in this area.  Thanks Nick!

70 video clips later, I've moved into the level of Conscious Competence; When you now what you know. More progress.

The building committee hopes that you have enjoyed watching these 70 video clips of our construction progress and that you felt some satisfaction in seeing the building constructed and remodeled.  What about that videographer's quirky humor?  He shouldn't give up his day job though.

Well, it was quite a roller coaster ride!

Thanks for all your support.  Together, we did it.

ps:  Don't forget that the links to all of the videos are listed on the right hand side of this page.  You can visit them whenever you like.

Week 65 - Trees & Bushes & Sprinklers - Oh My!

Dear Fellowship members, staff and friends:

As our building project nears completion, I would like to create a special archival video based on your written stories related to the last year of construction and remodeling of the Fellowship.  It could be funny, serious, contemplative...anything representing your experience this past year.

  • Do you have an interesting, funny, tragic, unexpected, extraordinary or hard-to-believe story that happened to you this past year, relating to our building project or being out of our own space for many months?
  • If so:  Write down your story and then read it to yourself to see if it is about one minute in length.  If it is longer than "about a minute", please edit and shorten it.
  • Send me a written copy of your story or anecdote in the body of an email message or on an email attachment composed on Pages or Word. My email address is d303burrous (at sign) msn.com.
  • When I get all of the stories collected, I'll put together accompanying photos of the construction at the Fellowship with the narration of your story done by a professional narrator with a dulcet voice.   You don't have to narrate your story, just write it down.
Thanks in advance for your help with this important archival project.  Looking back 10 years later, we'll be glad we did this!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

David Burrous

Week 58 - The Irony of it All!

The parking lots are complete.  The cleaning crew has started on the interior and the stucco work will be completed this week.  There are other items to be finished up or touched up, but we are getting close.  We are ready for the inspectors from the city to check out all of our systems.

However, the city offices have shut down and inspections not already done have been cancelled.  We don't know what impact this will have yet.  The city did inspect the electrical outlets in the SOS wing and the fire department inspector was scheduled.

Oh, the irony of it all!
